Christine Mello is a Cellist and Educator passionate about bringing the power and beauty of classical music to wider and more diverse audiences. She completed her non-cello studies at Temple University and studied cello out of the Curtis Institute of Music with luminaries like Orlando Cole, Metta Watts, Hsiao-Ming Chen, Thomas Kraines, and Karen Meier.
Mello performs a range of musical styles on diverse stages in Europe and America; her orchestral experience includes performing as substitute cellist under Stephen Gunzenhauser for the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, assistant principal cellist under Miran Vaupotić for the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival, and principal cellist under Linda Gentile for the Jersey Shore Pops. She performs classic and modern musical theater and chamber music ranging from Baroque to postmodern, has been featured on albums by artists including Gemini Wolf, Mikronesia, and The A Sides, and has played venues including the Warner Theater and Borgata Casino with pick up ensembles for touring artists like Il Divo.
Emphasizing mindfulness, joy, and positivity, she’s taught elementary to university level in schools and her private studio. In 2019 Mello coached young artists through Music Academy International in Mezzano Italy, where she also played principal cello for the Mezzano Romantica Opera Festival under Conductor Neal Goren and Trentino Music Festival under Conductor David Jackson, and section cello for the Mezzano Romantica Opera Festival under Conductor Christopher Larkin.
This year she’ll publish “Five Songs for Cello and Piano from Winterreise,” combining hermeneutics, semiotics, and transcription to replace the baritone vocal with cello.
